Coastal Futures mobile mural

CUSTOM MURAL

Coastal Futures is a 2.4m x 2.4m mobile mural created for the Gold Coast City Council cultural event, Creative Gold, held on 28 June 2025. Shaping the future of the Gold Coast arts scene was the aim of the event, attracting industry leaders, council members, friends and family to showcase 19 creative businesses. I painted the background design and gradient lettering to represent the Nerang River, flowing Kombumerri landscape and growing city of the Gold Coast. Aqua, lime and sunset tones on 3ml ply expressed a coastal vibe, with dynamic gradient capitals completing the bespoke design. The ply planks were drilled onto a timber backdrop, welcoming guests into the Broadbeach Creative Precinct.

POST-EVENT

After the cultural event, I mocked up the Coastal Futures mural onto the external wall of a Gold Coast sustainability-focused architecture studio. Inspired by local coastlines, native flora, and shifting weather patterns, the mural reflects the firm’s commitment to biophilic design—an approach that reconnects people with nature through light, air, texture, and organic form. Soft waves, earthy tones, and structural shapes blur the boundary between the built environment and the natural world. The mural embodies the studio’s climate-conscious values: low-impact materials, coastal resilience, and regeneration.

OUTCOME

The mural transformed the studio entrance into a living narrative of ecological awareness and future thinking. Coastal Futures speaks to a deeper mission, inviting viewers to imagine a future where design and nature work hand in hand to shape healthier, more resilient communities.
