Painted suitcase

CONCEPT

My aunt and I share a love of travelling and writing and, after the pandemic ended, she kindly gifted me her old fibreboard suitcase to use or donate. Rather than let it go to waste, I decided to give it a new lease on life some custom paint and lettering.

PROCESS

I used acrylic paint and hand-lettering to transform the well-travelled case into something personal and one of a kind. The suitcase itself became the canvas, with its worn surface and history adding to the character of the finished piece.

OUTCOME

What was once a practical travel companion became a piece of functional art — a reminder that everyday objects can be given a second life through creativity. After posting the design on Instagram, the American Calligraphy Crush online magazine reached out to me for an interview. The feature was presented as a ‘Top tips to lettering a 3D object’ in Calligraphy Crush Magazine, Issue 2.
